Here is an odd find - an Icelandic stamp issued to commemorate the
eruption of Hekla in 1947. Hekla is of course the next door
neighbour
to Eyjafjallajoekullo which until recently has been causing so much trouble
for our airlines. Hekla is said to erupt six months after
Eyjafjallajoekull so we will wait and see.
This stamp is one of 7
stamps issued in 1948 depicting Hekla, and in line with a series of
"geothermal" stamps which Iceland issued celebrating, for example,
their geysirs.
A view of the Iraq war
Here are two fragments of a parcel wrapping sent home from Iraq - perhaps
he (or she?) was a medical officer? These parcels were posted from the Forces Post
Office (No 326 Nasiriyah not too far from Basra) towards the end of the First World War.
The one on the right is dated December 1917. The sender was part of the
Indian Expeditionary Force to that country and as you will see most of the the regular
India stamps are overprinted I. E. F for use by the troops.

India stamps like these can also be found overprinted C. E. F - China Expeditionary
Force - for a different war at a different time.
